FAQ

Straight answers for year one.

Details below reflect the current Breaking Bread Fest ACE Grant plan. Some items stay open until venue and contracts lock.

Is Breaking Bread free?

Yes for the cultural program — performances, exhibits, educational activities, and the Taste Passport learning path. Optional tasting and VIP packages are separate commercial experiences and are not required to enjoy the public program.

When and where is the festival?

Working date: Saturday, 11 September 2027, 11:00 AM–8:00 PM, inside Salt Lake City limits. Exact venue address will be published after written site approval. Sugar House Park is preferred under a prepaid tasting model; alternate SLC sites are also under research.

What is the Taste Passport?

A digital or printed way to explore traditions, chef stories, demos, performances, and family activities. Educational stamps do not require a food purchase. Guests without smartphones get a paper path and staff help.

Can I sell food or book a booth?

Vendor applications open in the spring 2027 phase after venue rules are confirmed. Express interest now via Contact. Each food vendor generally needs its own Salt Lake County temporary food permit; festival approval stays conditional until health docs check out.

Will there be alcohol?

Optional year one and off unless venue and licensing are proven. Mocktails and non-alcoholic options are part of the lounge concept either way.

How is this related to the Salt Lake City ACE Grant?

Observable Universe is preparing a 2027 ACE application for supplemental cultural funding (ask up to $10,000). ACE dollars, if awarded, support local artists, education, family activities, accessibility, and outreach — not software development or private hospitality. An award is never guaranteed.

Who produces Breaking Bread?

Observable Universe Inc., with founder/CEO Adam Smith named in festival production leadership. Legal organizer and permit applicant of record will be confirmed before contracts and City filings finalize.

How do I get updates?

Use the Contact form interest list. We only send festival updates you opt into — and we never share leads with sponsors without explicit consent.
